Frequently Asked Questions

  • It’s my first class – what do I need to do?

At Yoga Flame we offer a wide variety of classes for all levels of practice. Have a look at our class descriptions to see what would be best for you. The next step is to book at a class at our Moonee Ponds studio. Alternatively you can register on the day, however please note that some classes book quickly and priority will be given to those who have booked online. Aim to arrive at the studio 20 mins before the class starts so we can get you all ready for your first class with us. As the door is locked when class commences be sure to get there early!

As a first time student with us you will receive our Introductory Offer -  14 consecutive days of unlimited yoga for just $25. This is the perfect way to experience our studio, try different classes, meet our amazing teachers and get to know what the Yoga Flame tribe is all about!

Looking forward to seeing you soon on the mat!
  • I have never done yoga before. What classes are best for me?

We offer five different classes at Yoga Flame all of which are open to all levels. However if you are new to yoga the best classes to start with are our signature Hot Yoga Flow, Yoga Essentials, Hatha Flow and Yin Yoga. These classes will give you a good base and offer a lot of beginner friendly instruction. The Vinyasa classes are multi-level classes so will offer instructions to both beginners and also more advanced students. They are also a little more physically demanding, so expect to work a bit harder!
  • How should I prepare for the class?

You will need a yoga mat, towel and bottle of water, all of which are available for rent or sale at the studio. Wear whatever you can move comfortably in – we suggest light clothing, similar to what you would wear to the gym. Try not to eat anything for two hours before the class, but if you do need to eat try for a light snack like fruit. But DO stay hydrated – be sure to drink plenty of water before class. Most importantly you will need to bring an open mind and be ready to transform your life!
  • What can I expect in a Hot Flow class at Yoga Flame? Is it like Bikram?

    Our teachers have a wide spectrum of study and experience and offer a fusion of many styles of yoga to create our unique style of Hot Flow. We find inspiration from many contemporary yoga styles including Barkan, Bikram, Ashtanga, Prana Flow, Anusara and Power Yoga. This means our students get to learn, grow and explore from the vast field that is available to the modern day practitioner. Each class follows a similar slow flowing structure (see below) but is also always a little different depending on the theme or intention of the class on that day. This ensures that the practice is always fresh, challenging and stimulating. Each class will include;
    • Breathing techniques
    • Sun salutations
    • Upper body strengthening
    • Standing poses to develop strength and balance
    • Floor poses that promote muscle flexibility and mobility of the spine and joints
    • Core work
    • Cooling down poses
    • Guided relaxation

The key qualities of Hot Yoga at Yoga Flame are
    • Room temperature ranges from 30 - 34 degrees depending on the season. This means the room is kept below body temperature so the heat does not cause stress or fatigue
    • Well structured sequencing provide a safe, logical practice that is available to all levels of student
    • A friendly and supportive teaching style. We understand not every persons body is the same so our teachers will find a place for each student to practice safely and effectively
    • A full spectrum practice that includes upper body strengthening and core work
    • Wooden and cork floors in both studios as well as state of the art heating and ventilation ensures air quality is clean, odour free and safe
    • The guarantee of warm and friendly teachers who will fully support their students at all times
  • How hot is the room?

We heat the room between 30 - 34°c depending on th season for our Hot Flow classes and between 27 - 30°c for Heated Vinyasa Flow. The room is not heated for our non hot Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Yoga Essentials or Hatha Flow.
  • Why is the room heated for some of your classes?

The room is heated in our Hot Flow and Vinyasa Flow classes. The heat helps to warm your muscles, prevent injuries and allow for a deeper release in your body.
  • Will the classes at Yoga Flame help me get into shape?

With the exception of our Yin class, the dynamic nature of the classes combined with the heat will stimulate your circulation which aids in developing cardiovascular fitness. As our classes are oriented toward fitness, strength and balance, you will be using all of your major muscle groups to perform the poses. With a consistent yoga practice over time you will notice you become stronger and more toned.
  • What if I am not flexible?

Perfect! That’s why you’re here. Each pose can be adapted to suit your level, so we encourage you to ‘begin where you are’ – respect your limits and know that you are becoming stronger and more flexible with each class.
  • What if I am injured?

Please let your teacher know before class if you have any injuries or conditions so they can help you. Your teachers have experience teaching students who are injured and will be able to offer appropriate modifications.
  • I have been practicing yoga for a while and want to try more challenging poses. Can you help me?

Our teachers have a lot of experience teaching a wide range of students and are able to help take your practice to the next level when you are ready. Our Vinyasa classes are multi level classes so offer more possibilities for deepening your practice.
  • Is there a minimum age to practice at Yoga Flame?

Yes, we ask that all our students are 16 years old or above.
  • How often should I come?

Consistency is the key! We recommend at least three classes a week for a noticeable difference in physical and mental wellbeing, but remember, every little bit counts! Most students find that they are most consistent when they schedule the same classes each week, so attendance becomes almost automatic.
  • I have more questions. Can I talk to you at the studio?

Of course! We are happy to answer all your questions as best we can. We are not only teachers but are students of yoga too, so by asking us questions we have the opportunity to learn as well.
