New Students

It’s my first class – what do I need to do?

Have a look at our timetable and decide which class you would like to attend -you can book your spot on the online bookings page. Aim to arrive at the studio 20 mins before the class starts so we can get you registered. Please note the door is locked when class commences so be sure to get there early. As a first time student you will start on our Intro Offer – 10 consecutive days of unlimited yoga for just $19.

How should I prepare for the class?

You will need a yoga mat, towel and bottle of water, all of which are available at the studio if you don’t have your own. You should wear light, comfortable clothing- similar to what you would wear to the gym. Try not to eat anything for two hours before the class. If you need to eat try for a light snack like fruit. Hydration is important so make sure you drink plenty of water. Most importantly you will need to bring an open mind and be ready to transform your life!

What if I am not flexible?

Yoga is an individual experience designed to help YOU become stronger and more flexible. Everyone starts from a different place so begin from wherever you are, and that is perfect!

Will the classes at Yoga Flame help me get into shape?

The classes are of a fitness-orientated yoga and require strength and balance. This means you will be using all of your major muscle groups to perform the poses. The dynamic nature of the classes combined with the heat will also help to stimulate your circulation. Many people find that they do become stronger and more toned through a consistent yoga practice.

Why is it room heated?

The room is heated to warm your muscles, prevent injuries and allow for a deeper release in your body. Sweating will also help flush toxins from your body.

How hot is the room?

For our Hot Yoga classes we heat the room to the low 30′s (around 32°c) and for Power Flow the room is 28°c

I have never done yoga before. What classes are best for me?

All of our classes are beginner friendly so you can feel comfortable coming to any class. The Power Flow classes are more physically demanding though, so expect to work a bit harder in these classes.

Is there a minimum age to practice at Yoga Flame?

Yes, we ask that all our students are at least 17 years old

What if I am injured?

Your teachers have experience teaching students who are injured and will be able to offer appropriate modifications. It is in your best interests to make your teacher aware of any problems you may have before class so they can help you as much as possible.

I have been practicing yoga for a while and want to try more challenging poses. Can you help me?

Our teachers have a lot of experience teaching a wide range of students and are able to help take your practice to the next level when you are ready.

What is the difference between Hot Yoga at Yoga Flame compared to other types of Hot Yoga such as Bikram?

We are based on the Barkan Method of Hot Yoga, a style of Hatha Yoga originating in Calcutta, India. It is in the lineage of Bishnu Ghosh and Bikram Choudhury.

However there are a number of differences;

The room is heated to a level that enhances your experience.

We use a variety of yoga poses, some that are used in Bikram yoga and some that are from other yoga styles.

Although the basic structure of the classes remains the same each class is slightly different so you will always be challenged and stimulated.

We use music to enhance your yoga practice.

How often should I come?

Consistency is the key. At least three times a week is the best way to enjoy the positive effects of your yoga practice. Every little bit counts so try to fit a regular class into your schedule as often as you can.

I have more questions. Can I talk to you at the studio?

Of course. We are happy to answer all your questions to the best of our abilities. We are not only teachers but are students of yoga too. By asking us questions we learn as well.
